Risa Jinunarux-Shibata, MSW, LCSW

Hi, I'm Risa, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). I am dedicated to creating a safe, supportive, and culturally responsive space where healing and growth can happen. My approach is trauma-informed, collaborative, and tailored to each client's unique journey.

My Training & Approach

I draw from a range of evidence-based therapies to meet clients where they are. My advanced training includes:

Eye movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR)

Internal Family Systems (IFS)

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)

Motivational Interviewing (MI)

Trauma-Informed Care & Cultural Humility

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (Act)

Motivational Interviewing (MI)

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

Solution Focused Therapy

Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)

I don't believe therapy is one-size-fits-all. Together, we will find the tools and strategies that best support your healing and growth.

Education & Professional Experience

San Diego State University (Master's degree in Social Work)

University of california, Los Angeles (Bachelor's degree in sociology)

I have experience working with diverse populations in various settings including community mental health, university, telehealth platform, non profit.

During my advanced clinical training, I interned at the San Diego LGBT Center, where I received intensive supervision from a clinical psychologist. This experience, originally geared toward the rigor of a clinical psychology program, gave me a strong foundation in evidence-based, trauma-informed therapy.

A Personal Note:

I am originally from Japan and grew up in a multicultural environment, which shapes the way I connect with people from diverse backgrounds. Outside of my work, I enjoy spending time with my birds, traveling, and finding balance through creativity and meaningful connections.
